The Amherst Public Library’s Board of Trustees meet in the library’s Local History room on the second Monday of the month at 6:00 pm. The public is welcome to attend.
Amherst Public Library is accepting applications to fill a seat on the library’s board of trustees that will become vacant January 1, 2019.
The new trustee will be appointed to a seven-year term through December 31, 2025. Criteria for potential trustees include commitment to the goals of the Amherst Public Library, willingness to devote time and effort to duties, recognition of the library’s importance as a community center of information, active participation in community affairs, management or professional experience and commitment to intellectual freedom.
Submit a resume and completed application form by November 20th to Don Dovala, Amherst Public Library, 221 Spring Street, Amherst, Ohio 44001. Applications are available at the library’s circulation desk or online.
Qualifications for a library trustee:
The most important qualification is a strong and genuine belief in public libraries and their mission in the community as centers for information, transformation and lifelong learning. A candidate must be willing to devote appropriate time and effort to carrying out the duties and responsibilities of trusteeship. These duties will include regular attendance at board meetings, committee service and activities, visibility in the community on behalf of the library, and learning about the library and the social, legal and political context in which it exists.
