The History of Folk Music, with Dr. Joel Keller

Joel Keller, the “Doc of Rock and Roll” returns to the Amherst Public Library on Thursday, May 17th at 6:30 p.m. with a new program on the History of American Folk Music, the “Music of the Common Man.” Joel will explore the historical context of the rise of American folk, beginning in the dustbowl years of the 1930s and continuing through to present day. This program features short biographies and a musical sampling of some of the most famous American folk artists, such as Woody Guthrie, Peter, Paul & Mary, Bob Dylan, Jim Croce, Joni Mitchell, Pete Seger, Gordon Lightfoot, Simon and Garfunkel, and many others.
